Since opening their first department store in 1930, the Shinsegae Group has spearheaded the growth of Korea's retail industry. Shinsegae Department Stores has been known for their tradition in excellence and quality. RYA was retained to work with Shinsegae on the renewal of the original Shinsegae Old Building, the 75-year-old, historic department store in the center of Seoul. The Renewal of the Shinsegae Old Building created a globally recognized luxury retail experience anchored by a collection of the world's most admired fashion brands and presented in a cosmopolitan environment inspired by the Textures of the Modern City.

RYA provided complete retail interior design services including planning, design, lighting, visual merchandising, and graphic communications (wayfinding, logo, identity, and store collateral) for the 120,000 square foot department store. Leading luxury brands in fashion, jewelry, accessories are housed on five floors. An extensive art exhibit enhances the stores' architecture and design. The sixth floor is dedicated to VIP and premier customers, providing customers with amenities such as lounges and a sculpture garden.
